Wyoming, MI – The JV men's basketball game between Grace Christian University and Calvin College lived up to the hype Tuesday evening, as the battle between two of the best JV squads in the state would come down to the final buzzer. Freshman Jarmichael Heard used a quick step-back move to create a great look at a game-winning three-point shot, but it would fall just short, resulting in a 62-61 win for the Knights.
Heard led the Tigers with 12 points, followed by sophomore Thomas Hill with 11. Freshman Gerard Oray had a team-high 5 assists.
"What a fun basketball game," commented Grace Head Coach Ryan Krombeen. "Our guys played so hard, I couldn't be more proud of them. Our rebounding and 3-point shooting were the difference between a win and a loss, but our effort for 40 minutes kept us in the game. Our bench was spectacular tonight, and every single guy made a positive impact tonight. We are inches away from being a very good team, now we just need to finish. It gives us that much more motivation to finish the season strong."
Aside from the exciting basketball game, a special thanks goes out to everyone who came to support the Tigers on Breast Cancer Awareness Night in loving memory of Grace's Gerard Oray's mom, Tawanda.
The Tigers move back to 9-9 on the season and will return to the court on Monday, February 4 against Lake Superior State University in the Upper Peninsula.
