Mission Statement
Developing Champions for Christ.
Philosophy
Athletics are an integral part of Grace Christian University. We believe that participation in athletics teaches and trains the individual in all areas of life, not only in the physical area, but in the social, mental, spiritual, and emotional areas as well. Through athletics, the individual can learn desired Christ-like qualities and characteristics.
The athletic program sees as its main purpose, the following: developing and displaying Christian attitudes, instilling self-discipline, developing proper sportsmanship, making new friendships and associations among team members, improving playing skills, teaching the value of cooperation and the proper spirit of competition, and bettering community and church relations.
For the player, the athletic program offers increased opportunities for improving player skills, developing physical vigor, demonstrating self-control, encouraging teamwork, promoting friendships, and learning good sportsmanship.
For the university the athletic program provides opportunities for developing healthy school morale; for encouraging fellowship and unity among students, staff, and community; for displaying the proper ideals of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and fair play; for opening doors of friendship and interaction between colleges; and as a special kind of outreach and ministry.
ROOTED Program
Every athletic program will have a strategy to grow in Christ together through serving, devotion, and leadership development led by coaches, team connectors, and student athletes. Each week we have a curated devotional sent out to the team connectors and coaches of each team to go through collectively as an athletics department. These devotionals could include testimonies from professional athletes, charges from local pastors, or even messages from our own Grace Christian student-athletes.
