Wyoming, MI – The Grace JV men's basketball team dropped two games by a combined five points this weekend to finish their season at the 2019 Grace JV Invitational.
In the early game on Friday against Cornerstone University, the Tigers lost in a thriller, 77-75. They would have a couple chances to tie the game or take the lead late but could not connect.
Sophomore Thomas Hill led the Tigers with 21 points on 7-10 shooting, followed by junior Jason Long who had 17 on 6-10 shooting. Freshman Gerard Oray led the Tgiers with 8 assists.
In their final game against Aquinas College, freshman Jarmichael Heard would knock down a clutch three-point shot to force overtime, with the game ended up needing two overtime periods to determine a victor. Once again, the Tigers had chances to win late in the game but could not convert on their offensive possessions when they needed, resulting in a 61-58 win for the Saints.
Hill was the only Tiger in double figures with 17 points, and was awarded All-Tournament team for his weekend performance.
"What a tough way to end the season," commented Head Coach Ryan Krombeen. "The guys battled so hard in two extremely close games. We had our chances and shot ourselves in the foot a couple times. Rebounding once again was our Achilles heel in the Cornerstonestone game. I was proud of how our guys competed in the consolation game, even though they knew they couldn't win the championship."
The JV team finishes their 2018-19 campaign with a final record of 9-12.
Congratulations to the winners of the first annual Grace JV invitational, Madonna University!
