Circleville, OH - The Grace Christian baseball team opened their 2025 spring season at Ohio Christian University over the weekend in beautiful sunny, 50 degree conditions, though it was a bit windy.
The Tigers started off Game one battling closely for the first 4 innings, only trailing 2-5 before the Trailblazers of Ohio Christian broke things open with a series of walks and hits to end up winning by a score of 12-2.
Matt Hoonhorst started on the mound for the Tigers, going 3.2 innings with just 4 earned runs given up, while senior
Jared Garnaat led the way on offense with two hits and two stolen bases.
Game two saw a renewed spirit for Grace as they started the scoring with an RBI single by
Reagan Mutschler in the first inning. However the Trailblazers would come right back and tie it 1-1 in the home half of the inning. Starter
Colin Nelson would go 2.0 innings before splitting time with
Iwan Sitalo and
Brendan Bos. Bos would fire 3.0 scoreless frames to end the game, but not before the damage was done and Ohio Christian leaped out to a 7-1 lead. The Tigers showed some fight and put up one more run in the top of the 7th to bring the final score to a 7-2 defeat.
"It was good just to get out on the field again," stated Coach Wolfe after the games. "It's hard to come out hot after being indoors for 6 weeks, but our guys know what they need to work on now going into spring break. We'll make the adjustments we need and come right back."
The Tigers hit the road again on March 8th to start their spring break trip touring the state of Kentucky, facing Alice Lloyd College, Kentucky Christian University, and UC Clermont.
