Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Sweeps Sabercats, Balkema Earns Player of the week

Kentwood, MI - Grace Softball took on the Maranatha Baptist University Sabercats in their final weekend series of the regular season last week. The Tigers, led by an outstanding offensive performance from Emma Balkema swept the four game set all by way of mercy rule. 

On Friday Balkema put together an amazing day at the plate going 4-4 in game one with 5 RBI's and hitting for the cycle for the first time in her career boosting the Tigers to a 13-3 win. 

In game two the scored 3 in the 1st, 5 in the 2nd, and then broke the game wide open scoring 18 runs in the 3rd inning. Lydia Clark picked up the win in this one throwing three scoreless innings giving up just one hit and striking out 6. Balkema put together another 4 for 4 performance with 8 more RBI's including a grand slam that completed her second cycle of the day and led the Tigers to a 27-1 win. 

In game one on Saturday the Tigers jumped out to another early lead after holding the Sabercats scoreless through two the Tigers scored 4 in the 1st and then exploded for 15 runs in the 2nd to put the game away. Ellie Hoeksema led the way offensively going 2 for 3 on the day with 6 RBI's including a home run and the Tigers would go on to win 26-6. 

Game 4 was more of the same as the Tigers exploded offensively. Emma Balkema picked up 3 more RBI's and Tori Walling finished the day 2 for 3 with 4 RBI's including a homerun. Kennadie Holder also hit her first career homerun in the contest.

The Tigers take on Muskegon Community College to cap off their regular season before heading to Alice Lloyd College for their regional tournament.
