The weekend was packed full as GBC celebrated with annual homecoming festivities! GBCVB added to the campus activity hosting it's homecoming quad tournament. Invited teams included Lake Michigan College, Silver Lake College, and Dayspring Bible College.
The Tigers started the weekend in good fashion as they opened up quad competition against the Red Hawks of Lake Michigan College, taking the first two sets of the match 25-13 and 25-19. After dropping a close third set 23-25, Grace fought off the Red Hawks to take the fourth set and overall match 25-22.
Amy Leszinske,
Adrianna Bunce, and
Allyssa Thompson collected 16, 13 and 7 kills respectively. Setter
Abby Schultz earned 37 set assists and
Meagan Pifer snagged 4 of the 11 team blocks. Leszinske,
Anna Veldink, and
Robin Gould served a combined 5 aces.
Saturday's matches brought on the Lakers of Silver Lake College and the Eagles of Dayspring Bible College.Grace came out swinging against the Lakers and won the match in three straight sets with scores of 25-20, 25-22, 25-16. Defensively, the team earned an impressive 65 digs on the match. Offensively, the Tigers improved in each of the three sets recording 8, 10 and 11 kills for a match total of 29 kills. Grace also collected 7 aces.
Match two day against the Eagles of Dayspring Bible College was another successful outing for GBCVB as the Tigers won back to back matches in three straight sets with scores of 25-17, 25-16, 25-14. As a team, Grace earned 32 kills, 38 digs and 7 blocks in the match victory against Dayspring.
Saturday's gameball was awarded to senior middle hitter,
Allyssa Thompson who recorded 100% serving, 10 kills and 6 blocks along with maintaining a positive attitude and strong communication with her teammates.
As part of the weekend celebrations, GBCVB took special time to honor and recognize the senior class of 2015. Senior players include
Ka Bao Xiong (back row specialist),
Abby Schultz (setter),
Allyssa Thompson (middle hitter), and
Anna Veldink (libero).
"This was a great homecoming weekend for us," said Coach
Becky Karsten. "Going undefeated with three solid wins is a great way to honor our seniors. We are so proud of their years of commitment and we're thankful to have them in our volleyball family. Their God-given athletic talents and examples of leadership on and off the court will be remembered for years to come."
After the quad concluded, homecoming activity continued as members of GBCVB alumni took the court in the 2nd Annual Alumni Game to wrap up another successful homecoming weekend.
