Grace Volleyball traveled to Chicago on Saturday to face the Scarlet Hawks of host school Illinois Institute of Technology and the Blue Angels of Mount Mary University. This was the second weekend in a row GBCVB ventured to the Windy City with the record of 1-1 on the day.
The Tigers started the day against the Scarlet Hawks of IIT. With streaks of inconsistency and patchy aggressiveness, the match wrapped in three sets with scores of 18-25, 16-25, 13-25. The team collected 15 kills and 21 digs.
GBCVB, took what they learned from the first match and, after losing a close first set 20-25, found inspiration and took control. The offense came to life and the defense held strong as the Tigers proceeded to win the next three straight sets 25-23, 25-22, and 25-19.
Grace had a successful turnaround from the first match of the day, nearly tripling in total team kills with 40, and more than quadrupling total team digs with 80 in match two.
Overall on the day,
Adrianna Bunce recorded 18 kills and 28 digs,
Amy Leszinske had 17 kills and 22 digs,
Allyssa Thompson had 8 kills, and
Abby Schultz recorded 45 set assists.
Anna Veldink led the defensive charge with 33 digs on the day. This count, along with her coachability and court tenacity earned her the game ball for the weekend.
Tigers are back on the road this Tuesday 10/6 at 8:00pm at Albion College.
Gooo Tigers!
