Tigers finish 2-1 at homecoming quad

Wyoming, MI - Grace opened homecoming weekend against the RedHawks of Lake Michigan College and the Eagles of Dayspring Bible College on Friday night.

After a slow start in the first set, Grace couldn't make a full comeback despite a run in the middle of the game, dropping set one 14-25. The Tigers came back fighting and scrapped out the second set victory with a score of 25-22.  Unfortunately, GBCVB could not hold off the RedHawks of LMC and lost the last 2 consecutive sets with scores of 15-25, 21-25 finishing with an overall loss on the match 1-3.

Notable contributions against Lake Michigan College:  Amy Leszinske was the team's kill-leader with 13 followed by setter Ashley Bearden with 11. Emma Summerfield led the team with 16 digs and 5 aces. Team finished with a total of 42 kills, 8 assisted blocks and 3 solo blocks.

"We just couldn't piece all parts of the game together against LMC," Coach Karsten said. "We stayed scrappy, but it just wasn't quite enough this time around."

Grace came out strong for the second match of the night against Dayspring Bible College. Every member of the team contributed to the match victory in a three set win over the Eagles. Set scores on the match were 25-13, 25-11, 25-10 in favor of GBCVB.

"It was good to finish on a high note today," Karsten continued. "After a tough loss earlier in the night, we were pleased with how the team collected themselves and bounced back for a W."

Notable contributions against Dayspring Bible College:  Emma Summerfield had 5 aces. Team total 27 kills and 25 digs.

Friday night's game ball was awarded to freshman Libero Emma Summerfield for her tenacious back row defense and aggressive serve game.  Emma finished with 10 aces on the night.

During the second day of the annual Homecoming quad, the Grace took on Silver Lake College. Grace took an early commanded of the court and didn't took back. The Tigers

finished in three straight sets with scores of 25-13, 25-14, 25-7.

Notable contributions against Silver Lake College:  Kylee Maat, Adrianna Bunce and Amy Leszinske tied as kill leader with 8 apiece. Leszinske recorded a 500% hitting percentage and collected remarkable 8 aces on the match. Maat led the team with an impressive attack percentage of .667%

Saturday's game ball was awarded to outside hitter Kylee Maat for her consistent offensive presence, aggressive back row play, and overall energy levels.  

Homecoming festivities capped off with the 3rd annual GBCVB Alumni game. Special shout out to all alumni who participated in this fun event. Participants ranged from 1994-2016.

"It's important for any program to honor the ones who contributed to past successes," Coach Karsten added. "Our GBCVB family grows a little every year and it was another great showing on the floor today."

Tigers are back in action Tuesday, October 18, at HOME against Indiana University Northwest at 6:30pm EST. Tuesday is also senior night where GBCVB will honor our lone Senior, Amy Leszinske. See you at the game! Go Tigers!
