The Grace Tigers men's soccer team prevailed over the Boyce College Bulldogs Saturday afternoon in an exhilarating overtime finish.
After holding a 1-0 halftime lead, the Tigers saw plenty of opportunity as the second half came around, but they had trouble putting in an insurance goal before the Bulldogs equalized at the 62 minute mark. Sophomore
Tarcisio Silva played a fantastic ball into sophomore
Daniel Sischo to put the Tigers up 2-1 shortly after. The Bulldogs were able to score again on a counter attack to keep up the back-and-forth scoring and knot the game at 2-2 at the 83 minute mark. Sophomore
Jorge Leon was then able to put the Tigers up 3-2 on a rebound and assist from sophomore
Ryan Wilson with less than 4 minutes remaining in the game. With Grace in the driver seat, Boyce was able to kick in a long free kick, as it soared into the corner of the net with just over a minute remaining to force overtime.Â
The Tigers wasted no time in attacking to start the overtime period, as senior
Aaron Wienss placed a perfect pass to Sischo for the golden goal under 30 seconds into the period. The Tigers were able to escape with a win after controlling most of the possession and outshooting the Bulldogs, 46-9.
"It's always nice to get a win, but we need to work on our finishing," commented Grace Head Coach
Dustin Buchanan. We didn't do a great job of taking advantage of all the shots and opportunities and that is something we will work on as we get back to work next Monday."
The Tigers return to the field next Tuesday at 5:00 pm vs. Andrews University at home.
