The Tigers started off the weekend with by far the longest road trip of the season to the U.P. to take on Finlandia University and Maranatha Baptist University.

In the opening set against Finlandia, the Tigers went on a 12-2 run after trailing the Lions 1-5. It was tight until the very end when GBCVB finally captured the win 27-25. The next two sets fell in favor of the Lions with scores of 16-25 and 13-25, but the fourth set was a different story. 

The Tigers showed their grit and pushed the final three points from a late game tie of 22-22 to force a fifth and final set. Grace dominated right out of the blocks and claimed the first 6 points and all of the game momentum to earn the set and match victory 15-8. 

"Going to five sets is always a challenge, both physically and emotionally," Coach Karsten said. "We fought hard after back to back losses and secured the momentum of the fifth fight set away. It was a great finish to a well fought battle."

The Tigers were not as successful in the second match up of the day against Maranatha Baptist University. The Sabercats took three straight with scores of 8-25, 10-25, and 9-25.

Notable contributions on the day: Ashely Bearden earned 45 total set assists. Team kill total of 56; Adrianna Bunce had 15 kills, Robin Gould had 7, and Freshman Kylee Maat stepped up and led the team in kills against Maranatha. Gameball was awarded to senior OH Amy Leszinske. She led the team in total kills (17) and attack percentage (.423% against Finlandia) while contributing 2 block assists and one solo.

Tigers are back in action and back on the road this Wednesday, 9/28, at Lake Michigan College and also Saturday, 10/1, for a tri-meet at Dayspring Bible College in Chicago.
