Greenville, SC - The Grace Christian University women's soccer program topped #1 seed and tournament host Bob Jones University for the 2018 NCCAA DII National Championship Saturday night in dramatic fashion.
Junior
Maddie Brown would get things started for the Tigers in the 19th minute to put them up 1-0 over the Bruins. Their defense would hold strong for the rest of the half, but the Bruins would find the back of the net on a free kick 10 minutes into the second half to tie things at 1-1. The Tigers offense slowed down for the rest of the game, but the defense, led by tournament MVP
Stella Follett and standout keeper
Regan Befus, would hold the talented Bruins attackers scoreless for the rest of regulation and two overtime periods to force penalty kicks. With a 2-1 advantage and the opportunity to seal the deal for Grace, junior
Brandy Weaver calmly stepped up and struck a perfect ball in the left side of the goal and the celebration ensued.
In addition to Follett's MVP honors,
Regan Befus,
Maddie Brown, and
Brandy Weaver were all awarded All-Tournament team.
Head Coach
Scott Teesdale and his team will bring home the first ever National Championship banner for the women's soccer program. Congrats on a job well done, Tigers!
