Wyoming, MI - The Grace men's soccer team's home opener was nothing short of a thriller on Saturday evening. After falling behind 3-0 to the Cincinnati Christian University Eagles, the Grace men's soccer team stormed back in the second half to knot things up at 3-3 in front of an energetic crowd at Velting Field.
A free kick from senior
Jose Covarrubias snuck through to put the Tigers on the scoreboard midway through the final period, and this seemed to give the Tigers the lift they needed as they sharpened their play immensely shortly thereafter. Covarrubias would send in a perfect pass to freshman
Kendall Nieuwenhuis to cut the deficit to 3-2, and junior
Dustin DeVries punched in a beautiful equalizer with just under 13 minutes left in the game.
The Eagles would strike shortly after to take the lead, and they would punch in one more late goal to finish with the 5-3 victory.
The Tigers return to the field next week in Grayson, KY, facing NCCAA DII rival Randall University (OK) at 2:00 pm on Friday afternoon.
