Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tigers rise to the occasion in win over NCCAA #6 Moody

Wyoming, MI – The Grace men's soccer team rose to the challenge Friday at Velting Field, recording a convincing win over Moody Bible Institute in a battle between NCCAA DII Top 10 teams (Grace #3, Moody #6).  Freshman Levi Pant made a couple fantastic saves in the first half to keep the game knotted at 0-0 headed into the break, and the Tigers offense turned it up a notch in the second half, scoring all 4 goals in the final 45 minutes of play.  Freshman Johann Vega stepped up with forward Brett Arnold (the leading goal scorer in the NCCAA) out for the game with an injury, recording a hat trick.  Ethan DeWitt scored the other Grace goal on a highlight-worthy touch past the Archers keeper.

"We were really looking forward to this challenge against another NCCAA DII Top 10 opponent," commented Head Coach Dustin Buchanan. "We knew with Brett (Arnold) out for the match, we needed some other guys to step up but we were very confident in our players because we are a very deep team that works together for the cause.  Even with a slow start in the first half, Levi made some quality saves which enabled us to really put pressure on in the 2nd. We adjusted very well to the changes we made and Johann (Vega) played a fantastic second half."

The Tigers return to Velting Field for their final home game tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 pm.  Seniors Dustin DeVries and Franz (Joseph) Craesmeyer both will be honored before the game on Senior Day.
