Berrien Springs, MI – After a very tough stretch in the month of November, the Grace women's basketball team has halted their losing streak with a big 60-57 road win over Andrews University on Monday night.
The Tigers built a comfortable lead and extended it to as many as 19 points after a well-played first half that saw them commit only 3 turnovers. The Andrews Cardinals would not let the Tigers away that easy, though, storming back in the second half and trimming the Tigers lead all the way to three points. Grace dug deep and did what was needed in the end, resulting in the much-needed road victory.
Head Coach CB Long spoke after the game.
"In a hard fought game, the Ladies got back on the winning side of the channel," said Coach Long. "I say that because our locker room talk was about what it looks like for a large freighter to make a turn in the channel. It takes time, energy, and may be slow... with a few bumps into the shoreline, but the freighter will eventually make the turn, and head out to sea. Last Saturday we began the turn, and last night, we began to see that the turn is evident. Picking up a win on the road, after losing several in a row, is a tough. It is our toughness that drove this victory, our leaders, our captains, our bench, all were tough, they battled, and did not give in."
Coach Long also pointed out that everyone from top to bottom contributed to the hard fought win, with every player on the roster seeing quality minutes. Junior Megan George knocked down five three-point shots and finished with a team-high 19 points on the night. Ashley Hoek followed with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
The Tigers will not have any time to rest before facing another tough test at Hope College in Holland, MI tonight at 7:30 pm.
