Southfield, MI – The Grace Christian University women's basketball team left early in the morning on Wednesday to face the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils at their annual elementary day, a tradition where hundreds of elementary school kids pack the stands to root on both teams. The Tigers battled for 40 minutes, but would ultimately fall short to one of the top teams in the country in the NAIA DII, 68-48.
Head Coach
CB Long commented on the game and the game day atmosphere.
"On a day that was filled with excitement, the Southfield elementary schools filled the gym with hundreds of students, screaming, cheering and stomping their feet, for every little thing they could. It was one of the most energetic crowds I have ever been in front of as a coach. That excitement translated into the opposing team going on a shooting spree, where one of their players shot 6-6 from "3" in the first half. And as a team team, made 11 "3's" 33 of the 41 points in the first half. While our energy was high, it was hard to match the scoring they produced. In the second half, while being short handed we changed to Man to Man defense, and the Lady Tigers were able to match the scoring in the second half, but the damage had been done. It was a great experience, a great atmosphere, against a very good team. It was a good learning experience for all."
Bre Harris led the Tigers with 13 points, 4 steals, and 3 assists. They return to the court next Tuesday at Spring Arbor University in a double-header with the men's team, tipping off at 5:00 pm.
