The Grace Christian University men's basketball team came up just short against local NAIA powerhouse Cornerstone University Saturday afternoon, falling 68-59. Grace played a solid defensive game against the talented Golden Eagles, but they were ice cold from the floor as well as from the free throw line, shooting 21-65 from the field and 12-24 from the charity stripe throughout the game.
After a neck-and-neck first half, the Golden Eagles went on a huge run to begin the second period, developing a double digit lead quickly. The Tigers had multiple runs of their own in the final 10 minutes of the game, but a few missed wide open layups and missed free throws at key moments would allow Cornerstone to keep the advantage and ultimately win the game.
Jerome Cobb and
Brandon Winchester-Jones both had 14 points to lead Grace.
The Tigers move to 7-9 on the year heading into a match-up at Calvin University this Saturday at 7:00 pm.
