Tigers split games on Ohio/Kentucky road trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Cincinnati, OH/Grayson, KY – The Grace Christian University men's soccer team finished the weekend 1-1 after defeating Mount St. Joseph University (NCAA DIII) on Friday and falling to Kentucky Christian University (NAIA) on Saturday.

The Tigers knew they would have to have a quality game on Friday afternoon to come away with a win at Mount St. Joseph, and that they did.  Freshman Brett Arnold used his head to perfectly place the ball above the keepers head in the first half and give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  Freshman Johann Vega would extend the Tiger lead to 2-0 late in the first half, and then freshman keeper Levi Pant and the Grace defense would hold strong for the rest of the game to secure a 2-0 shutout.  The Tigers controlled the game well, outshooting their opponent and also recording more corners.  Pant played spectacularly, recording 9 saves on the game.

The Kentucky Christian University Knights were next up for the Tigers, a rematch of the 2018 NCCAA DII Mideast Regional final game.  The Knights, now members of the NAIA division, broke a 0-0 tie right before the end of the first half and then they were able to extend their lead to 2-0 right at the beginning of the final period.  They would then hold strong on defense to restrict the Grace offense from closing in on the lead for the rest of the game, eventually putting in a late goal to run away with a 3-0 win.  Levi Pant recorded 7 saves on the game.

"We came out on our first long road trip and played very well against a talented Mount St. Joseph side," said Grace Head Coach Dustin Buchanan.  "Levi was fantastic in the net for us.  We were very lively.  We used a good number of players to try and stay fresh for the next match.  Riley (Mosterd) and Sean (McCarthy) both had some solid shifts in there and Deiber (March) made some crucial plays late in that game that helped us.  Saturday we had a quick turnover, with the match at 12:00 and we just did not get up for it as a whole, which was disappointing.  This will go a long way as far as our growth with this young squad."

The Grace men, now 3-3 on the year, return to their home field on Wednesday afternoon, facing Great Lakes Christian College in an NCCAA DII match-up at 4:00 pm.
