Oakland City, IN - It was a bumpy road, but the Grace Christian University women's basketball team found a way to win on Saturday at Oakland City University. After leading by 11 at the halftime break, they fell off a little bit in the third quarter and allowed the Mighty Oaks to take a one-point lead heading into the fourth. The home team would then extend their lead to three points on the first possession of the fourth, but a three-point shot from
Miranda Carlson followed by another from
Emily Libey on the next possession would recapture the lead for the Tigers. Oakland City would not go away though, as they clawed their way back to a three-point lead of their own with three minutes remaining. A lay-up by
Allazae Lloyd and a three-ball from
Megan Scholtens would take the lead back for the Tigers right after that for good, though, as they went on to escape with a 79-75 road win that will surely benefit their NCCAA power ranking..
It was a very balanced scoring attack for Grace, with
Allazae Lloyd leading six Tigers in double-figures with 14 points.
Ashley Hoek and
Emily Libey both had 13 points, followed by
Megan George and
Megan Scholtens with 12 apiece.
Miranda Carlson rounded out the Tigers' scorers in double-figures with 11. Hoek also recorded 16 rebounds and 3 blocks - both team highs. Lloyd dished out a team-high 5 assists.
Grace moves to 10-14 on the season and remains ranked at #5 in the NCCAA DII. This upcoming week they will travel to Lake Superior State University for an exhibition game on Monday before heading to Wisconsin on Saturday to face Holy Family College in Manitowac.
