Grace Volleyball wins first regional championship in 24 years

Box Score

Pippas Passes, KY – For the first time since 1996, the Grace Christian University women's volleyball team has been crowned as the Regional Champion! The Tigers defeated Johnson University-Tennessee in four sets Saturday afternoon to bring home the banner and secure a spot in the 2020 NCCAA DII National Tournament in Greenville, SC.

It was an intense match-up throughout, with the Royals taking the first set and the Tigers storming back to win the last three, with a kill from Ashley Hoek putting the exclamation mark on a 25-23 fourth set win.

Also worth noting, Hoek and Tori Johnston were named to the All-Region 1st-Team, while Megan Postma was named 2nd-Team.

Grace will now start preparation for the NCCAA DII National Tournament– their first appearance since a fifth place finish in 2016. The Tigers are the #4 seed and will start things off in pool play on November 18 with a match against #5 Randall University. Thursday they will play #8 Toccoa Falls to round out pool play and Friday brings about the semifinal and championship matches for the top four pool play performing teams.
