Harrodsburg, KY - A huge third quarter run would ultimately lift the NCCAA #4 Tigers to victory this past Saturday afternoon at #5 Campbellsville-University Harrodsburg, as they went on to defeat the Pioneers 83-73. With the win, the Tigers remain undefeated in the NCCAA and have won their last seven games to cap off their regular season as they are currently gearing up for postseason play with momentum on their side.
Head Coach
CB Long shared his thoughts from this weekend and a description of the game flow in his own words.
"In our last game of the regular season we faced one of our toughest opponents in NCCAA. A long road trip. Late night arrival and an early tip were all part of the experience. Having never played the Pioneers from Cambellsville-Harrodsburg we were nervous to say the least. Our first half started out slow, missing a few shots we needed to have fall. We fought back before the half to take the lead, only to have it taken back again. Missing a good looking 3 at the halftime buzzer that would have tied the game at 44 left us down three, 44-41. The 3rd quarter start was the key to a successful day. The first 5 minutes of the quarter the Tigers went on a 19-0 run. Giving us a comfortable lead. I give credit to the Pioneers and their toughness to fight back. As we are ramping up our season with anticipation of a good regional, we plan to see the pioneers once again."
The Tigers had a balanced scoring output from their starting five, with each of them hitting double figures, led by
Ashley Hoek with 18.
Megan George led Grace in the rebounding column with 11.
The Tigers, now above .500 at 15-14 on the year, start preparation this week for next weekend's (Feb 27-29) NCCAA DII Mideast Regional Tournament at Welch College.
