Harrodsburg, KY – The Tigers faced the Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg Pioneers for their third NCCAA DII game of the season Wednesday evening, a team that was ranked #2 behind Great Lakes Christian College in the 2020-21 Mideast Region preseason coach's poll.
Though the game was within reach throughout, a lapse from the Tigers midway through the second half would give the Pioneers a 13-point lead and Grace could never fully recover, resulting in a 75-69 setback.
With it being only the sixth game of the season for the Tigers and a relatively brand new team, Head Coach
Gary Bailey and the coaching staff continue to shuffle their line-ups in search of units that gel well together. All 11 players in uniform saw action Wednesday night, with the same story on Monday and Tuesday.
The Tigers are still working out the kinks offensively, as they shot 40% from the field and surrendered 21 turnovers.
Spencer Grant scored 21 points to lead Grace, followed by
Jarius Shumpert with 12.
Thomas Hill recorded his first career double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds on the night.
Head Coach
Gary Bailey commented on the game.
"Tonight went just about like we expected. Right now it is not about what the other team is doing, it is about what we are doing. With so much time off the players and coaches really don't have a sense of who we are or what we are doing. We are still trying to remember all the balance plays and sets. Harrisburg is a really good team and they run their things well. They have played consistently through the season without taking a lot of time off and it shows. They seem to be in mid-season form. Our early foul trouble had three of our starters sitting on the bench in the first half and that hurt us. The guys that came in played really well but it hurt us not having more size on the floor."
The Grace men cap off their Kentucky road trip with two straight games against Campbellsville-Somerset, with the opportunity to avenge Monday night's loss to the Somerset Tigers starting today at 3:00 pm. Watch the game live,
