Lincoln, IL – It was another weekend spent on the road for the Grace Christian University men's basketball team, as they headed to Lincoln Christian University for two games against the Red Lions, who are former NCCAA regional rivals with the Tigers but are now members of the NAIA.
In their first match-up on Saturday, the Tigers built a 38-30 lead in the first half and enjoyed a stress-free second half where they led by double-digits throughout and by as many as 30 points, finishing things off with an 89-61 win.
Emone Roberson led the Tigers Saturday with 19 points and 7 rebounds, followed by
Kierson Watts who shot 6-9 from the field and added 15 points.
Grace would go on to pick up where they left off on Sunday in the re-match between the two teams, putting together a solid first half en route to a 47-29 lead after 20 minutes of play. After 11 minutes of back-and-forth play in the second half, the Tigers still held onto a 17 point lead. The final nine minutes of the game were a different story, however, and the Red Lions clicked things into gear. The home team went on to outscore the Tigers 30-11 and in a shocking 86-84 setback for Grace.
Kierson Watts led the Tigers with 19 points on Sunday, followed by
Emone Roberson with 16 and
Spencer Grant with 14 points to go with 9 rebounds.
The Tigers, now 9-10 on the season, will head to Grace College (IN) on Tuesday for their final tune-up before the NCCAA Mideast Regional Tournament held at Boyce College in Louisville, KY next weekend.
