Wyoming, MI – The Grace Christian University men's soccer team welcomed former NCCAA Mideast rival Kentucky Christian University to Velting Field Saturday afternoon. The last time the two teams had competed on the Grace campus was for the 2018 Regional Championship, in which the Knights prevailed and since then have transitioned into the NAIA. Saturday would be different, as the Tigers were firing on all cylinders, especially in the second half of play.
Starting things off with a missile of a goal, was freshman
Jorge Luis Saldanas-Veliz at the 15 minute mark. The game remained at 1-0 until 5 minutes into the second half
Payton Jeltema and
Jared Farnsworth scored just minutes apart to open things up to 3-0. A free kick from
Zak TerMeer and a shot that squeaked past the keeper from
Johann Vega would cap things off for a convincing 5-0 win when things were all said and done.
The Tigers, now 1-1 on the season, return to their home field on Wednesday afternoon for a tough test against one of the best NCAA DIII teams in the nation in Calvin University. The game will begin at 5:00 pm.
