Wyoming, Mi - The Men's Soccer team continued their winning ways with a victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph by the score of 2-1.
From the starting whistle the Tigers would heavily dictate play, creating chances and coming close to scoring, but it was the visitors who would score first against the run of play. After a foul near the half, St. Joseph sent in a free kick which fell, to a maroon jersey inside of twelve who put it past keeper
Luis Vicario. This was the first goal conceded in nearly six games against Vicario and his defense. The boys in Grace blue would respond quickly and with intent. They leveled the match with a great free-kick goal from
Zak TerMeer.
Within two minutes, they would score once again when
Payton Jeltema made a great run and put a ball off the crossbar which
Jared Farnsworth would find the rebound and put into the back of the net. Grace would take the lead into the half, and never look back. The second half provided more scoring opportunities for the Tigers but they were unable to convert. Grace led in corners, shots, and shots on target.
Coach Buchanan had this to say about the match;
"We did a fantastic job of limiting their opportunities and I felt it was a bit unfortunate to give up the goal we did. We had a great response from the boys. We were creating a lot of opportunities before the goal, so to continue that after giving one up was a great show of the mentality of the team. Once we got the first goal, we felt we would get another and we did, which was a half we wished could have kept going. Overall we played well enough and got the victory."
Your Grace Tigers now have a 3-match home stand to finish out the regular season. Catch them in action tomorrow Oct. 18th at 5 PM vs Andrews University.
