GCU MBBALL Wins Home Opener vs Ohio Christian

Wyoming, MI - If you were in the Aldrich Center on Saturday you got treated to a thriller of a game. Grace Christian welcomed NAIA power, Ohio Christian for a match-up for the '22-'23 home opener.

Despite being down by 10 points at the half break, the Tigers were able to win the game 97-95. Jalen Rawls (JD) led GCU with 21 points and had 3 assists without a single turnover. Ty Thiel had a double-double in his first game as a Tiger with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Bankeys Omari (Keys) led GCU with 6 assists. The Tigers had 25 assists to only 12 turnovers, and shot 83% from the free-throw line, making big ones down the stretch.

In his first official game as our new Varsity squad head coach. Coach Krombeen had this to say about the day:
"We came up with a whole lot of nervous energy today. In the first half we didn't run our sets well, we didn't keep them out of the paint, and we didn't keep them off the boards. In the second half, it seemed like the game started slowing down for us. We took better shots, provided more resistance defensively, and ran our fast break very well. We trailed most of the game, but our guys never once flinched. It's a gritty group of guys that have only begun to touch the surface of how good they can be, it will be an exciting year. Kellum Bridgeforth hit the big shot, which is always what you hope to see out of your senior leader".

The Tigers now set their eyes for a big match up on the road vs Calvin University on Tuesday, Nov. 8th.
