Spring Arbor, MI – The Grace Christian University women's basketball team continues to make history in 2021-22, most recently with their first ever defeat of Spring Arbor University. The Tigers prevailed 63-58 Monday evening on the road, marking their first win in four tries all-time against the Cougars.
After a struggle in the first quarter for both teams offensively resulted in a 9-7 Spring Arbor advantage, the Tigers exploded in the second quarter for 25 points and took a 32-25 lead into the halftime break. The Cougars would fight back and lead 42-40 with 2:00 remaining in the third period, but a three point shot from freshman
Ashlyn Wilkes took the lead back for Grace and they'd maintain it for the rest of the game.
Senior
Megan George led the Tigers with 17 points, while
Ashley Hoek scored 10 points and pulled down a team-high 16 rebounds. Wilkes rounded out the Grace scorers in double figures with 12.
The Tigers, now 12-8 on the year, will return to their home gym for two games to finish the regular season later this week – Lincoln Christian University at 5:00 pm Thursday, and Finlandia Saturday at 1:00 pm.
