Caledonia, MI – The Aquinas College Saints (NAIA) welcomed the Grace Christian University baseball team to the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex Monday evening for a double-header and likely the first of many future match-ups between the two programs with the two campuses sitting less than 10 miles away from each other.
The Tigers were within striking distance for the majority of the game as
Cooper Lake held strong to only allow the 3 runs in his first 5 innings on the mound. Unfortunately, they could not catch a groove at the plate and went on to surrender 5 runs in the Saints' final at bat to result in an 8-0 finish.
The second game started with some fireworks for the Tigers, as they went up 3-2 in the second inning thanks to a triple from
Aiden Malone, a sacrifice fly from
Carter Willis, and a steal home by
Jared Garnaat. The Saints broke free for a huge 10-run inning in the fourth that would ultimately sink the Tigers though, with an 18-4 final result.
The Tigers, still in search of that elusive first victory, await a big weekend in Kentucky ahead, as they will face fellow NCCAA member Kentucky Christian University in Grayson, KY in a double-header both Friday and Saturday.
