Wyoming, MI - Grace Women's Basketball took the court for their season opener against NAIA opponent Spring Arbor University on Thursday night under new Head Coach,
Dennis Graham.
In the first half, the Tigers defense held it's own, only allowing 34 points; yet the offense struggled to score throughout the night. As legs grew tired in the second half, the Cougars ran away with the game, defeating Grace by a final score of 89-31.Â
For Grace, Freshman
Liberty Laker led the team with 12 points off three 3-pointers, followed up by Sophomore
Lily Helmuth with 9 points. Senior
Jada Reese was sharp on defense, tallying 5 blocks on the night. Helmuth also played an impressive 40 minutes in the game, leaving everything on the court for her team.
Coach Graham had this to say about the game, "It was a tough first game but the girls battled through it. We learned a lot about ourselves tonight and what we need to improve on before next week. This team has a lot to build from and I'm excited to move forward with this group."
Despite the loss shown on the scoreboard, the game will be counted was a forfeit win against Spring Arbor Univrsity due to them playing an ineligible player.
Grace's next game will be a home game next Wednesday, November 1st at 8pm against The University of Olivet Comets.Â
