Box Score 2 Comstock Park, MI - The Tigers hosted the Rochester University Warriors at LMCU Ballpark on Saturday for a doubleheader. The weather halfway cooperated, as the teams battled through bouts of rain, wind, and beautiful sun throughout the two games.
Game one started with a bang as Grace got on the board first with an RBI single by
AJ Scott, scoring
Damian Fernandez. Grace would score again in the second by a sacrifice fly to right field by
Royce Frieburger, making the score 2-1.
Iwan Sitalo kept the score right there until the 5th inning when the Warriors exploded for 4 runs, going up 5-2. Grace scratched back with a run in the sixth from an RBI single by
Eric Whiting.
Brendan Bos came in for relief, going 2.1 scoreless innings, but it would not be enough, as the Tigers dropped game one by a final score of 3-5.
Game two also started with a bang as Grace put 3 on the Warriors in the first inning, highlighted by a 2-RBI double by
Carter Willis. Grace starting pitcher,
Sam Sipe, would hold the lead at 3-2 through the fourth inning, but as the rain increased, so did the opposing scoring. Rochester scored 2 in the fifth, and 4 more in the sixth to go up 8-3. The Tigers failed to score anymore runs, and dropped the nightcap by the same score.
"It was great for the guys to play on LMCU's field," said Coach Wolfe afterwards. "We battled for two games through tough conditions, and both of our starters gave us chances to win. Now we've just got to capitalize on our chances. We've got a chance to keep getting better this coming weekend and put it all together."
Now at 1-5 for the fall in official games, Grace is scheduled to host Kentucky Christian University at Kelloggwoods Park on Friday and Saturday for a 4-game set.
