Baseball Sweeps The Sabercats On Senior Weekend

The Tigers hosted the Sabercats of Maranatha Baptist University over the weekend for four games, two of which on Friday would be played at a neutral site, Kenowa Hills HS, due to weather concerns. Saturday saw five seniors get honored for their time here: Dylan Thomas, Caleb Achatz, Eric Whiting, Caden Hill, and Kaleb Blaskowski.

Game 1:

Mo Lerma drove in four runs on four hits to lead Grace Christian Baseball past Maranatha Baptist University 20-0 on Friday in game one of the series. Lerma hit a home run to left field in the fourth inning, scoring two runs, and doubled in the fifth inning, scoring two.

It was a busy day for the offense... Grace got on the board early in the bottom of the first inning after the Sabercats committed an error, Eric Whiting singled to right field, and Aiden Pavlacka flew out, each scoring one run. The Tigers scored scored six runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. Dylan Thomas singled, scoring two runs, Ethan Edmondson hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Daniel Wallington singled, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run. In the bottom of the fourth inning, they scored six runs on four hits. A passed ball scored one run, Justin Harphant hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Lerma homered to left field, scoring two runs, Thomas singled, scoring one run, and Whiting lined out, scoring one run. The Tigers scored another five runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Lerma doubled, scoring two runs, Gavin Kleidon grounded out, scoring one run, Reagan Mutschler doubled, scoring one run, and Thomas doubled, scoring one run.

Ryan Mullins earned the win for Grace Christian Baseball. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six and walking one. Hunter Lemerand and Evan Snyder each came on in relief for Grace Christian Baseball and shutdown Maranatha Baptist.

Grace Christian Baseball piled up 13 hits in the game. Whiting collected two hits for Grace Christian Baseball in four at bats. Wallington led Grace Christian Baseball with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Pavlacka and Whiting each stole multiple bases for Grace Christian Baseball. Grace Christian Baseball ran wild on the base paths, collecting 10 stolen bases for the game.


Game 2:

The bottom of the lineup was strong for Grace in this one. Aiden Pavlacka, Justin Harphant, and Caleb Achatz combined for six of the team's 12 hits in their victory. They scored three runs and drove in seven. Aiden Pavlacka drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Tigers past Maranatha 16-4. Pavlacka doubled in the second inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the third inning, scoring two.

Grace Christian got on the board yet again in the bottom of the first inning after Eric Whiting doubled, scoring two runs, Ethan Edmondson grounded out, scoring one run, and Achatz singled, scoring one run. The Tigers scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning, and another two in the third.

Mo Lerma earned the win on the mound for Grace Christian Baseball. Lerma surrendered three hits and one run over two innings, striking out two and walking none. Mutschler stepped on the mound first for Grace. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and one run over two innings, striking out none and walking none. Cameron Suvada also pitched one inning of no-run ball in relief, striking out 2. 

Grace Christian Baseball piled up 12 hits in the game. Gavin Kleidon led Grace Christian Baseball with three hits in five at bats. Harphant, Dylan Thomas, and Achatz each collected multiple hits for Grace Christian Baseball. Pavlacka, Daniel Wallington, and Thomas each stole multiple bases. Grace stole 14 bases in the game. 


Game 3:

Kaleb Blaskowski was dominant on the mound, as the starter rang up 12 strikeouts in Grace Christian Baseball's 9-0 victory over Maranatha Baptist University on Saturday at Kellogg Woods Park. Blaskowski gave up three hits and zero runs over 6.2 innings while walking just one.

Grace Christian got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Gavin Kleidon grounded out, and Reagan Mutschler homered to left field, each scoring one run. Grace scored another two runs in the bottom of the second on a home run to left field by Mo Lerma. Three more runs crossed the plate in the third inning to extend the lead to 7-0. Dylan Thomas hit a solo home run to left field, Caleb Achatz doubled, scoring one run, and Aiden Pavlacka singled, scoring one run.

Grace amassed 12 hits in the game. Lerma, Mutschler, Thomas, and Eric Whiting each collected two hits for Grace Christian Baseball. Lerma and Mutschler each drove in two runs. Lerma stole two bases. Grace Christian Baseball ran wild again on the base paths, amassing six stolen bases for the game. Grace Christian Baseball didn't commit a single error in the field.


Game 4:

Grace completed the sweep in game four against Maranatha Baptist University 10-5.

The Tigers scored yet again in the first inning after Reagan Mutschler hit a solo home run to left field. Grace added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Daniel Wallington doubled down the left field line, Ethan Edmondson walked, Mo Lerma singled down the left field line, and Gavin Kleidon hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.

A passed ball extended the Grace Christian Baseball lead to 6-4 in the bottom of the third inning.

Parker Curell earned the win for Grace Christian Baseball. The righty surrendered seven hits and four runs over five innings, striking out three and walking three. Caden Hill appeared in relief for Grace to close out the last two innings of the game.

Grace tallied 11 hits in this game. Damian Fernandez, Mutschler, and Wallington each collected two hits for Grace Christian Baseball. Aiden Pavlacka, Lerma, Mutschler, Wallington, Eric Whiting, and Kleidon each drove in one run for Grace Christian Baseball. Pavlacka, Dylan Thomas, and Whiting each stole multiple bases as Grace stole 10 bases in the game.


Up next for the Tigers is a midweek matchup at Central Michigan University, followed by a weekend series with Miami Univeristy - Hamilton.
