Ann Arbor, MI - Grace traveled to Concordia University Ann Arbor Tuesday to take on the Cardinals in a doubleheader. The day ended with two losses but included some positives by several players.Â
Game One
Starter
Joe Leavitt kept the Tigers in the game for 5.0 innings, allowing just 4 hits. Yet the Cardinals struck for 5 runs in those innings, taking advantage of several errors by the Grace defense. The Tigers scored in the second inning from a sacrifice fly from
Carter Willis that brought home
Royce Frieburger, making the score 1-5 through five innings. Concordia tacked on 4 more in the 6th off of a few walks and a home run. Grace, down to their last chance, battled and put up 3 runs in the 7th to answer, but it was not enough and the final score ended 4-9.
Reagan Mutschler,
Royce Frieburger,
Sam Sipe, and
Tyler Thomas each collected two hits in the game.Â
Game Two
It would be Grace who struck first in this game, as
Royce Frieburger laced a line drive up the middle to score
Jared Garnaat in the top of the first inning. After that however, it was all Concordia. The Cardinals put up 9 runs in the second inning, 3 more in the third, and 10 in the sixth which put the nail in the coffin for the Tigers. Grace was able to muster a few more runs in the game off another double from
Royce Frieburger and an RBI single from
Damian Fernandez. However, Concordia closed the door in the seventh for a 22-4 victory. Several Tigers had a strong offensive game however, with
Royce Frieburger owning a 3-hit game, along with
Jared Garnaat,
Damian Fernandez, and
Alex Bonnema all having 2-hit games. Pitchers
John Green and
Adam Pierce both had scoreless appearances on the mound.Â
Grace will travel to Wisconsin this weekend for a 4-game set with Maranatha Baptist University. The Tigers already took 4 games from the Sabercats at home, and look to complete the season sweep on the road.Â
