Olivet, MI - The Grace Softball team continued to extend their win streak to 8 this weekend as they defeated the University of Olivet.
In Game One for the Tigers,
Skylar Lowe scored their first run of the game in the first inning. Olivet would score their first and only run at the bottom of the first on a double. Lowe again scored at the top of the third on an error by the Comets. Two more unearned runs at the top of the seventh would seal off the Tigers' 4-1 victory over Olivet.
Kyra Kaboos and
Kaliann Newberry each had 2 hits, while
Emma Balkema and Kaboos each had a double. On the mound for Grace was Balkema who threw all 7 innings, only giving up one run and striking out 10.
The Tigers again defeated the Comets in Game Two, this time 7-4. A double by Balkema at the top of the first drove
Morgan Hall and Newberry home, putting them up 2-0. Grace scored 3 more runs at the top of the third, but Olivet answered with 3 of their own at the bottom of the inning. Two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings allowed the Tigers to pull ahead and secure their sweep of the Comets. Freshman
Alyssa Wallinga took the mound this time around, striking out 2. Kaboos led the Tigers with 2 doubles.
Tuesday's scheduled games against Ancilla College have been postponed. The Tigers look to continue their win streak next Tuesday, April 22 as they host Maranatha Baptist University for a second time this season.
