Game Recap: Baseball |

Tigers Split On Senior Day

Wyoming, MI - The Tigers hosted Alice Lloyd College for a four game series taking place on Thursday and Saturday due to storms on Friday. Saturday would be Grace's 'Senior Day' as they honored 8 seniors, 6 of whom have been here since the inception of the program. The seniors this year are Josh Egberts, Adam Pierce, Brendan Bos, AJ Scott, Alex Bonnema, Carter Willis, Jared Garnaat, and Jaden Schoeneman.

Thursday

The first two games saw a lot of action from the Grace bats, as they put up 13 runs across the two games. Game one resulted in an 7-11 loss, but thanks to some strong pitching in game two by Brendan Bos and John Sanocki, the Tigers ended the day on a 6-3 win to split the day.

Damian Fernadez hit two home runs in game one, and Jared Garnaat and Dylan Thomas both led the lineup with 3 hits each. Brayden Chavies threw two scoreless innings in the loss.

Royce Frieburger secured the lead in game two with a 3-run home run in the 5th inning. Brendan Bos pitched 4.1 innings only allowing 2 runs, and John Sanocki finished the game for him going the 2.2 innings, only allowing one more run. The duo combined for 5 strikeouts on the day.

Saturday

On emotion filled Senior Day, the team started off with a bang! After a hard fought game, the Tigers entered the 7th inning trailing 4-8. With two outs, Grace came storming back to tie the game with four runs capped off by a two-run home run by Dylan Thomas to send the Tigers into extra innings. Reagan Mutschler reached on an error and made it all the way to third base. A two out wild pitch brought pinch runner Alex Bonnema home and the Tigers won in walk off fashion to begin Senior Day!

In between games, the seniors were honored and special thanks were given out to the group of seniors that laid the foundation for this program to be where it is at today.

In game two, the fans had deja vu when the team trailed 3-9 going into the last inning. With two outs, again momentum started to build. Grace plated 5 runs in the 7th to bring the score to 8-9, but could not scrape across that last runner to tie the game, and Grace had to settle for a split.

Senior Jared Garnaat had 5 hits on the day including a home run of his own. Dylan Thomas also had 5 hits on the day, 3 of them being home runs, which was good enough to earn him NCCAA DII Baseball Player of the Week honors!

The Tigers will play their last regular season game of the year Tuesday at 4pm at Kelloggwoods Park vs The University of Olivet. The Regional will be held in Kansas City, MO beginning on Monday of next week.
