Box Score 3 Kentwood, MI - The Grace Christian Softball team claimed another three victories over the weekend as they welcomed Maranatha Baptist University for a 3-game series. Originally scheduled to be played in Wisconsin, the Sabercats made the decision last minute to make the trip over to Kellogg Woods Park due to weather concerns.Â
Game One
The Tigers played their first game on Friday evening, resulting in a 13-0 victory over the Sabercats.
Morgan Hall and
Lexie Alexander led the Tigers offensively as Hall recorded 3 hits, 3 runs, and stole 4 bases, while Alexander had 3 RBIs, 2 runs, and 3 hits, including 2 doubles.
Tori Walling also hit her first home run of her collegiate career.Â
A strong pitching performance by
Emma Balkema resulted in 12 strikeouts, a season-high for the sophomore. Along with striking out 12 of the Sabercat's 14 at-bats, she also only gave up one hit in the five innings played.
Game Two
On Saturday afternoon Grace scored 22 runs, a season-high for the Tigers, in a 22-3 win over Maranatha. Although the Sabercats jumped out to a 1-0 lead, the Tigers quickly answered with runs of their own. 11 of their 22 runs would come at the bottom of the second. It was a successful day of hitting for the Tigers as they tallied 20 total hits, led by
Skylar Lowe with 4 hits. Lowe also recorded 4 RBIs and 4 runs of her own, along with 3 stolen bases.
Kyra Kaboos and
Carlee DeVries had 2 doubles a piece.Â
On the mound for the TIgers was
Tammy Perrotta, who went 3.1 IP with 3 strikeouts before going down with an ankle injury. Kaboos replaced Perrotta and went 1.2 IP with 1 strikeout and only allowed 1 hit.
Game Three
Grace closed out the weekend with a 10-1 victory over Maranatha. Lowe once again led the Tigers with 4 hits (one triple), 4 stolen bases, and 3 runs, while
Alyssa Wallinga added 3 hits, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs of her own. Throwing for the Tigers was Wallinga, who struck out 2 and only allowed 2 hits.Â
The Tigers look to keep their bats hot going into Wednesday when they host Alpena Community College for a pair of games at Kellogg Woods Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3pm.Â
