Hinkle Breaks Another Distance Record, Gansert Claims All Throwing Records for Grace

Allendale, MI - The Grace Christian University Track & Field squads traveled to Grand Valley State University on Friday and Saturday for the "GVSU Early Meet" and saw two new school records shattered and numerous season best marks in nearly every event.

Teams Competing: Aquinas, Calvin, Cornerstone, Cuyahoga CC, Davenport, Goshen, Grace College, Grand Christian University, GVSU, Hope, IU Kokomo, Lawrence Tech, and the University of Notre Dame

Meet Highlights:

  • Freshman Ian Hinkle (Grand Ledge, MI) continues to grow physically and mentally stronger and took on his first ever race in the 3k steeplechase.  Hinkle destroyed the previous school record by 45 seconds en route to a time of 11:14.80 and a 5th place overall finish in the event.  He now owns both the outdoor 5k and steeplechase records for Grace.

  • Sophomore Aidan Gansert (Fort Wayne, IN) completed his mission of owning all four throwing event school records for Grace on Saturday with his personal record-setting performance in discus.  Gansert tossed a mark of 32.52m to beat the previous school record by almost two meters. He also had season best marks in shot put, hammer, and javelin throughout the two-day meet.

  • Senior Ben Bird (Allendale, MI) had a season best performance in the men's 1500m race, finishing in a time of 5:11.72, improving upon last week's effort by ten seconds.

  • Senior Kent Herring (Evart, MI) also had season best efforts in long jump (5.44m), the 100m dash (12.48 seconds), and the 400m (57.01 seconds). Herring will be competing in the men's decathlon competition next weekend at Davenport University as he looks to punch his ticket to the NCCAA Outdoor National meet in South Carolina next month.

  • Freshman Kaylee Morris (Mancelona, MI) had a strong race in the women's 100m dash, finishing in a time of 13.92 seconds.

The track & field teams will continue their series of meets in the Grand Rapids area this week, when they will travel to Davenport University for a 2-day meet to begin this Friday, April 11 and conclude on Saturday, April 12.  The "Davenport Invitational and Multis" will feature the decathlon competition where Kent Herring will compete in 10 different events over the course of the two days.  Aidan Gansert, Ian Hinkle, and Kaylee Morris will look to inch closer to NCCAA qualifying standards in their respective open events, as well.
