Wyoming, MI - After a 0-0 tie on Thursday at Eureka College, men's soccer returned home to take on their first conference opponent of the season, the Maranatha Baptists Sabercats. This game would turn out to be a physical defensive battle down to the end.
The game opened with fast paced offense from both teams with some good defensive play on both sides. Tigers goalkeeper Logan Werschmen made two incredible diving saves to keep the Sabercats off the board, and midway through the first half Nate Newberry connected with Braylon Marshall off a corner kick to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
In the second half the Tigers were able to create several scoring chances for themselves but weren't able to find the back of the net to extend the lead. More good defense and a couple more saves from Logan Werschem were enough to keep the Sabercats off the board and propel the Tigers to a 1-0 victory, lifting them to 3-3-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
The Tigers next matchup will be Friday September 26, at Velting Field, where they will host Albion College at 3pm. Visit
