WYOMING, Mich. – The Grace Christian University women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon, honoring Taylor Myckowiak and Mary Vazquez in their final home season with the Tigers. Grace fell to NCAA Division III opponent Alma College by a final score of 5-0.
Alma jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead before adding three goals in the second half to secure the victory. Despite the result, the Tigers continued to battle throughout the afternoon, with goalkeeper Kenna Hill recording an impressive 13 saves in the contest coming off of an NCCAA Student Athlete of the Week recognition.
Seniors Taylor Myckowiak and Mary Vazquez each played all 90 minutes for Grace, highlighting a special afternoon for two players who have made a significant impact on the program both on and off the field.
"I am really proud of the way our team is playing, and that continued Saturday," said Head Coach Sean Wilson. "In spite of some real adversity, we have worked hard through entire games, we have been very gritty, and have been disciplined to our style of play. A lot of credit goes to the gals for that and them continuing to be a unified team through the adversity."
Wilson also took time to recognize his two seniors and their contributions to the program.
"We celebrated two seniors, Mary and Taylor, who have been crucial this year for our team. They both played 90 minutes and had strong games. Very proud of both of them and their accomplishments. Taylor has been a two-year team leader and has had a huge hand in forming a very strong team culture."
The Tigers follow up next week to conclude their regular season at Andrews University on Wednesday and at home vs Faith Baptist on October 31.
