Wyoming, MI - As the calendar turns toward another fall season, excitement is building around the Grace Christian University men's and women's cross country programs. Under first-year head coach Kristina Brandenburg, the Tigers enter 2026 with a blend of experienced leadership, developing talent, and a culture centered on faith, perseverance, and excellence. Brandenburg, a former Grace standout and one of the program's top runners, takes over after the successful tenure of Gerry Verwey, who will remain involved with the program in a supporting role.

The Tigers have spent the summer laying the foundation for success, logging countless miles and preparing for a challenging schedule that will test them against strong regional competition throughout Michigan and the Midwest before postseason competition begins.

"Our goal is to improve every time we step on the course," said Brandenburg. "Cross country is a sport that rewards consistency, discipline, and teamwork. This group has embraced those values, and we're excited to see what they can accomplish together."

The 2026 campaign features several opportunities for the Tigers to measure themselves against quality competition before turning their attention toward the NCCAA Midwest Regional Championships. Those regular-season races will provide valuable experience as the team builds toward its ultimate goal of qualifying individuals and teams for the NCCAA National Championships later this fall.

While race results are always important, the Grace cross country program continues to emphasize something even greater.

"Our team wants to compete with excellence while honoring Christ in everything we do," Brandenburg said. "We want to support one another, push each other to improve, and represent Grace Christian University well both on and off the course."

That culture has become a hallmark of the Tigers' program. Whether training through the summer heat, encouraging teammates during difficult workouts, or competing on race day, the focus remains on serving one another and glorifying God through the pursuit of excellence.

The Tigers open competition early in September and will spend the fall racing across the region before setting their sights on the NCCAA postseason.
