Fans packed the stands last night to watch the home Tigers of Grace Bible College battle against the visiting Bruins of Kellogg Community College.
Honorary guests from local area volleyball programs were among the crowd including teams from  Muskegon, Holland Calvary, Greenville, RCV, Grand River Preparatory and Zion Christian.  These young players were the first participants in the 1st annual GBCVB "
Future Tiger Day" event.Â
Energy was high as Grace took the court for set one. It was a close victory, but a good start to the night as GBC earned the first set 25-23. However, KCC answered back by taking the following two sets 20-25 and 16-25.
With renewed energy, the Tigers headed into the fourth set swinging. With increased aggressiveness and communication GBC almost earned more kills in set four alone than they did in the previous two sets combined. Despite holding the lead near the end of set four, The Tigers just couldn't hold on long enough. The Bruins took a hard fought set four 23-25, clinching the match victory.
Team totals include 33 kills, 62 digs, and 12 blocks.
Meagan Pifer earned the gameball for the night for leading the team in blocks (4), contributing to the kill count (3) and her coachability on the court.
"Losing close games is tough all around," Coach Karsten commented. "Our goal is to leave 100% on the court, have positive attitudes and always display strong efforts. We had our chances tonight and did a lot of positive things out there, but couldn't quite bring all the pieces together in time. KCC was a great team to play and we will take what we learned into our upcoming matches."
GBCVB is back in action this weekend for their
Homecoming Invitational. First match for the Tigers is Friday, at 4pm against Lake Michigan College. Saturday matches are at noon and 2pm followed by the 2nd Annual GBCVB Alumni game!
A very special thanks to our fans and honorary future Tigers for your support. Gooo Tigers!
