Tigers fight hard, drop match 1-3

Grace hosted the Red Hawks of Indiana University Northwest on Tuesday to conclude their home game schedule.

With a narrow first set loss of 21-25, the Tigers bounced back and took control of set two winning 25-20.

Tied at one win apiece, it was a battle for the match victory as both teams showed true aggressiveness and grit. In the end, it was the Red Hawks that came out on top; Grace dropped the third and fourth sets with scores of 18-25 and 16-25 and finishing the match 1-3.

"It's always fun to play NAIA competition," coach Becky Karsten said. "We battled hard and we're confident that with a few tweaks on our side of the net, we will be able to turn the outcome in our favor when we face IU again. It's an exciting challenge and we know we can rise and meet as a team."

Notable contributions against IN University Northwest: Adrianna Bunce was kill-leader with 13, Ashley Bearden earned 26 set assists. Game ball was awarded to Senior Amy Leszinske as she led the Tigers in attack percentage at .357%, contributed 11 kills, 9 digs and had one third of GBC's blocks and added 2 aces.

Tuesday was also GBC's Senior Night. Amy Leszinske is this year's lone Senior and was honored before the match with the following sentiments from Coach Becky Karsten and Coach Emily Brown:

Amy is a Human Services major from Ravenna, Michigan and has been part of the GBCVB family for 4 years as an outside hitter, and most recently, has transitioned to a new role as a middle hitter.

She has been nominated by her teammates to serve as captain in both her Junior and Senior years and has brought the team together both on and off the court in this role.  Amy has also played on our women's basketball team, participated in a mission trips to Ireland last winter, and she is a student worker in our enrollment office as a Grace Admissions Personnel.

Amy has worked hard every year to hone her physical skills as well. She was voted as the team's MVP in 2013. She was selected to the Region All-Tournament team in 2013, 14, and 15; as well as the Midwest All-Region team in 2014.

Amy is ranked 7th for the most digs in Grace Volleyball's all-time records. This season she is leading the team in solo blocks, she is 2nd in kills with 162 and she has dished out 28 aces.

She is fast, strong, and a smart player on the court. She's an intense celebrator and loves going crazy when her teammates dish out an intense kill or stuff block. She has grown tremendously as a player, but more importantly she had also grown as a woman of God.

Amy, thank you for your tireless commitment to our team. We pray that your love for God continues to touch the lives of others in the positive way you have touched the lives of our team. Your example of leadership and your athletic talents will be remembered for years to come. You are, and always will be a cherished member of the volleyball family. We love you!
