Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Tigers fall to Finlandia as Brown ties career goals mark

Hancock, MI - Despite outshooting the Finlandia University Lions 19-17 Saturday night in the Upper Peninsula, the Tigers women's soccer team ultimately suffered a loss in double overtime, 2-1.

Junior Maddie Brown put in the first goal of the game for either team at the 35 minute mark of the first half, but just a short minute later the Lions would answer with an equalizer.  The game would go scoreless until the 114 minute mark in the second overtime, where Finlandia's Alexia Gonzales scored the game winner.

The goal for Brown was the 56th on her career, and she is now tied atop the Grace all-time goals leaderboard with Debbie Pekel.

Head Coach Scott Teesdale shared his thoughts on the road trip.

"We had a great 3 day trip to the UP with a chance to enjoy the beautiful fall colors at their peak. Finlandia proved to be a tough opponent and it was a very even game. Playing at night with a loud crowd against us was a challenge, but we stayed composed and could have come out with a better result. It's always tough to lose but Coach Summerfield and I were happy with the effort. Games like this can help later in the year when we are in higher pressure situations."

The Tigers move to 6-6-1, and they will not have an official match again until next Friday (October 19) against Bob Jones University in Jacksonville, Florida.  This Saturday brings about the Cancer Awareness scrimmage, though, so be sure to make it up to Velting Field to watch the team and support cancer research!
