Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Tigers fall in tough NCAA DI & NCCAA DII games over the weekend

Kalamazoo, MI - The Grace women's basketball team played their first NCAA DI team ever this past Friday night in Western Michigan University.  The Broncos would come out playing inspired basketball in the first quarter to develop a 34-8 lead over the Tigers and grow their lead to 40 at halftime.  The Tigers settled in and battled hard in the second half, but the deficit was too large, resulting in a 91-46 setback.

Wyoming, MI - The Tigers would follow up their late-night NCAA DI affair in Kalamazoo with a match-up with Welch College at 10:00 am Saturday morning at the Aldrich Athletic Center.  It would certainly be a test, as the Flames knocked the Tigers out of the regional tournament last year and return a solid group that will be sure to make some noise in the NCCAA this upcoming season.

After a neck-and-neck game throughout, the Flames made plays late in the game to escape with the 64-60 road victory.

"This weekend was our 2nd and 3rd games of the season, building blocks for our future," commented Head Coach CB Long.  "Playing WMU on Friday night with all its emotions and then playing 12 hours later was a developmental journey.  We played Saturday with toughness and strength after experiencing the same thing Friday night from our first D1 foe."

All in all, Coach Long was satisfied with the strides made and knows the team will be improving more with a tough week ahead.

"We are better than we were and not as good as we are going to be.  We will until, thy will be done!"

The Tigers move to 0-3 on the season headed into another home game against Cornerstone University at 7:00 pm Monday night.  Things do not get much easier, as they follow it up with another NCAA DI game on the east side of the state against Oakland University on Tuesday afternoon.
