Wyoming, MI - The Grace women's soccer team faced Kentucky Christian Saturday afternoon in their first game of the year at Velting Field. After holding strong to a 1-0 lead for the majority of the game, the Tigers would open things up with 3 goals in a span on 10 minutes in the second half to secure a 4-0 shutout win.
The win carries more weight than a normal game for Grace, as Kentucky Christian is an NCCAA DII Mideast Region member, and it will help the Tigers in their quest to earn a #1 seed at the Regional tournament at the end of the season.
"It was nice to get the win today, overall we played very well," commented Head Coach
Scott Teesdale. "
Brandy Weaver and
Maddie Brown were strong in the front and
Stella Follett and Elly Befus shut things down defensively and moved the ball upfield effectively."
Regan Befus had 3 saves en route to her first shutout of the season in the goal.
Maddie Brown,
Elenrae Befus,
Soraida Garcia, and
Brandy Weaver all put in goals for the Tigers.
Alicia Contreras had 2 assists, while Weaver contributed 1 as well.
"It was great to see
Soraida Garcia get her first college goal," added Teesdale.
Grace returns to the field this upcoming week against Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, MI on Tuesday at 7:00 pm under the lights.
