Wyoming, MI - The Tigers fell to the Cleary Cougars 4-3 in overtime on Tuesday evening in a thriller at Velting Field.
After falling behind 2-0 after back-to-back goals from the Cougars midway through the first half, the Tigers struck back immediately to trim their deficit to 2-1 with a beautifully placed ball from junior
Alicia Contreras and a great finish from sophomore
Maddie Brown. Sophomore goalkeeper
Regan Befus would provide multiple fantastic saves to keep the Tigers in the game, and senior
Elenrae Befus eventually knotted things at 2-2 on a header off of a corner kick in the second half. Soon thereafter, Befus would find Brown for the highlight of the game, where Brown launched a ball from outside the box over the Cougar goalkeeper's head to take the lead (see video below).
The Cougars would then find the back of the goal near the end of the game and score the golden goal to secure the victory.
"This was an exciting game, it was too bad we couldn't come away with a win," commented Grace Head Coach
Scott Teesdale. "We did a great job coming back and I'm very proud of our team. Regan made some great saves, as did Stella off the back line. We worked hard and as always, there are areas where we can and will improve."
The Tigers, now 2-5 on the season, return to Velting Field Thursday at 5:00 pm vs. Rochester College.
