Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tigers comeback falls short vs. Defiance

Wyoming, MI – The Grace men's soccer team could not overcome a 3-0 deficit at Velting Field Saturday afternoon, eventually falling to Defiance College 4-2 after a near-comeback.

Senior Nick Pilieci created some great opportunities for the Tigers, first taking the ball by a couple defenders and feeding senior Ryan Wilson for the Tigers first goal of the game in the second half.  Pilieci would then rebound a deflected shot and placed it in the back of the goal to trim the Yellow Jackets' lead to 3-2 with plenty of time left on the clock.  Grace would see a couple opportunities to tie the game, as they had all the momentum and controlled the possession of the ball quite well at that point.  Defiance was eventually able to score on a fourth set piece to up their lead to two and coast to the finish.

"Today was a tough result," commented Head Coach Dustin Buchanan.  "I thought we put out a good performance and sometimes in soccer the score does not reflect that.  Statistically we created more, but failed to convert and in the end we're behind in the statistic that matter the most – goals.  Both Ethan's (Michael and Savoy) did a really solid job defensively.  We did a much better job controlling the midfield.  Nick Pilieci had a major impact as he came back from injury.  A lot to be happy with moving forward."

The Tigers return to the field Monday evening against St. Mary of the Woods College at 4:00 pm.
