Wyoming, MI – The Grace Christian University men's basketball team opened their season with a quite impressive 95-72 win over NAIA Asbury University (KY) on Friday night at the Aldrich Athletic Center.
The Tigers held a 44-30 advantage at the halftime break and would allow no let downs in the second half, holding their comfortable lead throughout the rest of the game.
Distributing the ball and getting easy baskets was a key advantage for the Tigers, as they made their field goals at a 54.2% clip and held their opponent to 37.1% shooting from the floor. As a team, they dished out 27 assists, led by sophomore
Kellum Bridgeforth's 6 and 4 each from
Kierson Watts and
Jerome Cobb. They also outrebounded the Eagles 51-29, led by
Adam Kregel with 13.
Austin Jackson led the Tigers with 20 points, followed by
Brandon Winchester-Jones and
Keoante Blackamore with 15 and 13, respectively. Kregel paired his rebounds with 10 points to record a double-double.
The Tigers return to the court tomorrow in Dearborn, MI, taking on the University of Michigan-Dearborn at 1:00 pm (JV team will kick things off at 11:00 am).
