Wyoming, MI – The Grace men's soccer team grinded out a 1-0 victory over a scrappy Andrews University team Tuesday evening at Velting Field. Sophomore
Jared Farnsworth found the back of the net in the first half after receiving a great pass from freshman
Tobias Jones, which would prove the be the difference-making goal for the Tigers to end on the winning side and move to 2-2 on the 2019 season.
The Cardinals battled hard until the very last second and beyond, scoring what would have been the equalizing goal just after the clock hit 00:00 in the second half.
Sophomore keeper
Drew Steensma finished with the clean sheet, saving four shots throughout the game.
"I felt we did a good job in the first half controlling the game, creating chances," commented Grace Head Coach
Dustin Buchanan. "We were able to capitalize on one with a great play from
Tobias Jones playing in
Jared Farnsworth for a good finish. Second half was a bit different. We continued to create chances just did not finish with quality. We have to do better there. Andrews can be a tough matchup, historically we've had some intense ones. Failing to put that 2nd past a resistant Andrews left them with a chance, and fortunately it didn't cost us. We need to finish off this type of game, and I know we will begin to do so as the season goes on and our young guys find their form and gain experience. I really thought
Dylan DeVries was exceptional tonight. He and Marco were strong for us. We have some time now before our next match on the road to focus on all of these areas.
The Tigers will now have over a week off before hitting the road to face Mount Saint Joseph and Kentucky Christian University on September 20 and 21.
