Wyoming, MI - The NCCAA DII #2 Grace Christian University women's soccer team was defeated by a very talented Cleary University (NAIA) team Tuesday evening at Velting Field, 3-1. It is their second loss of the year to the Cougars, improving upon a 3-0 defeat in Howell, MI just a few short weeks ago.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first half, sophomore
Jennie Sue Pilieci scored for the Tigers off of an assist from senior
Alicia Contreras to put them within striking distance at 2-1. A second half goal from the Cleary Cougars set the Tigers back 3-1, and though the Tigers saw a couple more chances they were unable to claw their way back.
"Cleary is always a tough opponent and we fell behind early again," said Grace Head Coach
Scott Teesdale. "It was nice to get a goal and make it close and we created some chances in the second half but couldn't connect. Overall we played a good game and the team really worked hard. We're near the end of a very busy stretch in our schedule. I really like the improvements we are making and looking forward to our games in Wisconsin."
The Tigers move to 4-6 on the season heading into a big NCCAA DII game with Maranatha Baptist University in Watertown, WI this Friday at 3:30 pm.
