Chicago, IL/Rockford, IL – The Grace Christian University Tigers women's volleyball team renewed an old rivalry with Moody Bible Institute this past Friday, battling the Archers in the Windy City in a very competitive match-up. After a slow start in the first game, the Tigers narrowly lost the second game to allow Moody a 2-0 lead. Grace then stepped up in the third game, playing to their potential for a 25-18 win before dropping off a bit in the fourth and final game as Moody escaped with a 3-1 match victory.
Emma Summerfield had 37 digs, and
Ashley Hoek recorded 9 kills and 7 blocks in the loss.
The Tigers then fell 3-0 to start their day Saturday against Edgewood College, but bounced back in a big way against tri-match host Rockford University with a 3-0 win of their own. Hoek recorded 13 kills and 4 blocks to lead the way for the Tigers in their weekend-capping victory.
"We have been striving to find a really consistent and gritty mentality over the past weeks, and we hit it right on the mark this weekend in our match against Rockford," said Grace Head Coach
Kerri Shultz. "I am so proud of our girls for being patient and adjusting until we found our stride. The potential we have when we are playing our hearts out is inspiring. We can't wait to get on the court again this weekend in Finlandia!"
The Tigers now sit at 6-8 heading into a weekend in the Upper Peninsula at Finlandia University. They will face Mount Mary University on Friday at 6:00 pm, and then will take on Finlandia and Buena Vista University at 9:00 and 11:00 am Saturday.
