Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Grace offense fizzles late in slim loss to Cornerstone

Wyoming, MI – The Grace Christian University women's basketball team had their first win ever against Cornerstone University in their sights with a lead in the fourth and final period, but a cold shooting front swooped in late in the game to allow the Golden Eagles to escape with a 68-56 victory.

The first three quarters were played pretty evenly, though Cornerstone held a five point advantage at both halftime and the end of the third quarter.  A basket from Ashley Hoek to close out the third would carry some momentum into the fourth, where the Tigers stormed out to a 7-0 run to capture the lead at 52-50.  A huge three point shot from Cornerstone would take the lead right back moments later, and the Tigers struggled to get anything going the rest of the game offensively, going the final 5:33 of the game without making a field goal.

Senior Miranda Carlson led the Tigers with 13 points and 6 assists.  Ashley Hoek was the only other Tiger in double figures scoring with 12 points to go along with a team-high 7 rebounds and 5 blocks.

The loss halts a three-game win streak for the NCCAA DII #5 Tigers and moves them to 9-14 on the season.  They look to bounce back over the weekend in Oakland City, Indiana, where they will face Oakland City University (NCCAA DI) on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
